3 Pieces from "Hysterectomies in Wonderland"

The Red Queen Fights Menopause
The Red Queen feels her fertility factory shutting down. Cards get lost. Soldiers lose their swords. The Red Queen runs out of paint for her roses. Repeatedly, she hangs her head over the flamingos' garden and lets the awkwardly formed legs fan her dripping forehead. After washing her hands, the Red Queen brushes aside the curtains covering her ribcage. She moves the chess pieces around, claiming all the knights and pawns, the queen, and then the king. You

From The Utter Scientist

The world is getting excited. Thoughts are turning into miracles and crimes all over the place.

A near collision between a discarded part of a Chinese rocket and a giant chunk of European remote-sensing circuitry loose in the atmosphere. An earthquake in Chile, with aftershocks that may shift the earth's axis and shorten the length of our days.

Then another in Turkey, then one in Japan.

Outside the black hole: a conversation with Jenny Abel

Like the late Andy Kaufman, and to a lesser degree, fellow percussionist Peter Sellers, career media hoaxer Alan Abel is known for his skill at using the masses' expectations and assumptions as the hinge for his various capers. When his Campaign Against Breastfeeding came to Denver to make its case at some mega political event when I was a teenager, and the Rocky Mountain News never knew it was a prank, I read the article and never knew it either until reading RE/Search Publications'

Vato Maldito: My Life of Crime, by John "Bubbles" Gallegos, edited by Raoul Vehill

27

When I had been dealing cocaine, and living with Theresa the year before, Rudy, one of the 4 friends who turned informant for the DEA against me, was found dead on the street, a few blocks from his mother's house. He had been stabbed 17 times, then had his throat cut. The warden of the County Jail called me to his office, to advise me that Kay, a female friend of mine, had called jail to ask if I could be furloughed
