I began working for myself. I took care of the people immediately around me, paying rent, buying groceries, that sort of stuff, and paid people to deliver my product. I was seeing this girl, Anita, who was an heiress. One day, she made me an offer I couldn't refuse. She was in the early stages of pregnancy. She wanted a father for the soon to be born child. She would pay me a

sizable amount to marry her. She also had a heroin habit, which I was taking care of. She gave me a Lincoln Continental, which she had recently purchased. I didn't mind becoming the father of her child. She promised that on the day of our wedding, we would take off to Mexico, for a month's vacation. She had something like 3 million dollars being held in trust for her. She was beautiful, and even though she had a heroin habit, the lady had class.

There was no real romance between us. She needed someone to take care of her, and I fit the bill. I had been taking care of her for several months before I even knew that she had that kind of money.

My own children, Johnna and Elgerine, were yet very young. I wanted so much for us to be a family again. But the life I was in made that impossible. I could only hope that one day I could make that possible.

As things were at present, they had been taken care of by my brother Joe, and his wife Sophie, since I had been sent to prison in 1975, and my wife had died of cancer. I thought at the time that my daughters were probably much better off under my brother's guidance than mine. They had been under his roof for

10 years, during which time I had been in prison. I had always fostered a desire to straighten out my life, at least for their sake. But fate had the upper hand, and somehow, prison would always interfere.Maybe I now had the wherewithal to realize my dream of having a family again.

Cisko and Lorrie managed to get next to me again. He wouldn't let me forget that he took a bullet for me. I felt obligated to him for that reason. But it wasn't me Mr. D. hated. Mr. D. despised Cisko.

One day, during a snowstorm, Cisko, Lorrie and I were driving north, on Federal Boulevard in southwest Denver. Mr. D. and one of his boys, happened to stop right beside us while we were stopped at a red light. Visibility was poor. When she saw that Mr. D.'s  passenger was pointing a gun at us, she gunned the Caddy and took off like a bat out of hell. We raced  down Federal for about a mile or so, then turned on Alameda, and headed for the 1-25 Freeway. Once on the freeway, we headed north. Mr. D. was right behind us.

About a mile or so down the freeway, Mr. D.'s passenger began firing his pistol at our car. I was packing a Colt .45 Mark IV. But being that I was in the backseat, and the left rear window was patched with cardboard, I had no visibility at all. I had no target to shoot at.

We were approaching the 8th Avenue exit, when Lorrie veered across several lanes and just barely made the exit. Mr. D. couldn't follow, as the move had been too sudden. But one of our tires had been shot out. Also, several shots had penetrated the door where Lorrie sat. Luckily, none of the bullets had hit her.

We parked the car and started walking. I was  hoping they would swing back and come looking for us. Fortunately, they didn't come looking for us, because I only had two bullets. Some gunman, huh?

One morning, watching TV, I saw my friend Mr. D. being arrested for murder. It seems a girlfriend of his and he had robbed a coke dealer at about 2am in the morning. They shot and killed the dealer.  The girl turned state's witness against Mr. D., and managed to frame Anthony L. as Mr D.'s accomplice. The girl was eventually placed on a witness protection program, and moved out of the state.

Meanwhile, Anita and I had rented a house. I was taking care of her coke and heroin habit, which along with my habit was costing $3000 a week. I was grateful for her huge trust fund. A few months later, I noticed that our house was being watched. I had another couple living with Anita and I, who delivered the product to clients. I advised them about the heat we had, left them the house, and moved out.
