I've been putting out books since I was 19. The last two, "Small and Wrong" and "Fables" I've published since moving to Chicago. Prior to that, there were three compilations:

"Songs and Praises from the Land of Love" - 1987 119 pages

The first one was written mostly during '85 and '86, my senior year in high school and freshman year in college. I dropped out of eastern Illionois University early in my 4th semester and put it together. It would be the template going forward: stories, poems, lists and drawings. More stories than anything else that would come later (outside of
Â
"Fables" which is all stories). This is the granddaddy, probably the most "fun" book I've ever done, and will always have a special place in my heart.

No fancy production values on these first three. Just copied, paper punched, and put in a 3-hole binder with transparent cover.

I got a tattoo on my right arm of the front cover while in the army, a black and white illustration (mine) inside a rectangle

"They Dropped off a Sack and it Set off a Trap" - 1988 80 pages
Written in 87/88. Inspired by the reaction to the first book, I quickly followed up with this one, done in the same style.

After dropping out of school, I lived at home for a while, rotting in Decatur, IL while writing this. Not a lot of life experience under my belt. It's better and not as good as the original, but has its moments. My first attempt at a real short story, "Paths of Knapsack", stands in at eighteen pages.

"Into The Hamper" - 1992 138 pages
I moved to Denver, CO in 1989, wrote most of this there - as well as Seattle where I lived for eight months in '91 - then finally landed in Chicago in late '92, where I organized and put it together. I got a tattoo on the other shoulder of this front cover Hicks art. Black and white rectangle thing again.

I plan on culling the best of the "trilogy" into one proper book, the working title being "Nudged From the fold." Or "Dumbed Up."
