Holding his instrument and lunchbox, Bugs walks down the street thinking out loud, "If I get on the F train, I can take it to the end of the line. Then I can walk over to Brighton Boulevard. From there I think I can hitch a ride to Commerce City."
He turns at a sign that says 'Park and Ride' and walks toward where he found himself a few days ago sitting on the lightpost pedestal. Bugs stops and looks at the hustling trains,
buses and people. On a bench sits a smashed brown paper lunch bag.
The channel changes:
"Now I remember."
Bugs sits in a grey jumpsuit, alone at a long table with an empty smashed sack lunch.
"They brought like 15 of us in a bus and put us in a hall. A few different halfway houses picked everyone else up. But nobody ever called my name or came and got me. I got tired of waiting and went outside."
Bugs exits the long cinderblock building, the 1st on the road of what looks like a bigger complex. He looks around and after a couple of minutes walks toward the road.
The forgotten inmate wanders down a street in a poor neighborhood. He goes by a fence where clothes have been hung to dry. He grabs a pair of jeans and shirt and leaves.
Bugs goes behind a big bush in front of a house down the street, changes, and emerges with the clothes on that he had on days ago.
The channel changes:
"And then I walked here, just like I am now again. But I thought I escaped from the bughouse by hitting the guard with the fire extinguisher?"
"Maybe you did," Fido says.
"What really happened?"
"What do you think happened?"
"Well now I remember 2 different ways of how I got here a few days ago, when I didn't know how I got here. So I thought I knew, but now I don't know. I think the way I just remembered. But the way you told me seems right too."
"Maybe it doesn't really matter what 'really' happened. Maybe what matters is what you think happened."
"You think?"
"I don't know. And what else could be is maybe you got out of the bughouse more than once."
"I just want to know how I got here."
"It doesn't matter how you got here. What matters is that you're here."
"But later I won't be here."
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves."
"We're going to Commerce City," Bugs declares.
"Let's go," says Grease Squirt.
They all walk towards the train stop.
At the end of the line the train stops. People get off and Bugs does too, alone. He walks past the bus stops out towards Brighton Boulevard.
